Hyalomma aegyptium ticks were collected from Testudo graeca at localities in northern Africa, the Balkans, and the Near and Middle East. Hyalomma aegyptium was absent in the western Souss Valley and Ourika Valley in Morocco, the Cyrenaica Peninsula in Libya, Jordan, and the Antilebanon Mountains in Syria. Hemolivia mauritanica, a heteroxenous apicomplexan cycling between T. graeca and H. aegyptium, was confirmed in Algeria, Romania, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, and Iran. All tortoises from Hyalomma-free areas were Hemolivia-negative.

Klíšťata Hyalomma aegyptium byla sbírána na želvách Testudo graeca na loklaitách v severní Africe, na Balkáně, Blízkém a Středním Východě. Hyalomma aegyptium chyběla v západním Souss Valley a Ourika Valley v Maroku, na poloostrově Cyrenaica v Jordánsku a v pohoří Antilebanon v Sýrii. Hemolivia mauritanica, heteroxenní apicomplexan cyklující mezi T. graeca a H. aegyptium byla potvrzena v Alžíru, Rumunsku, Turecku, Syrii, Libanonu a Iranu. Všechny želvy z Hyalomma-prostých oblastí byly Hemolivia-negativní.
