Úvodní kapitola editované monografie přináší rozsáhlý přehled současné výzkumné, teoretické a odborně instruktivní literatury o historii psychologického zkoumání následků katastrof, o stresových fenoménech a traumatických reakcích, o odpovídajících diagnostických jednotkách i o rizikových a protektivních faktorech. V závěru informuje také o principech poskytování psychosociální pomoci a zásadách její organizace a o ohrožených skupinách včetně samotných pomáhajících.

The introductory chapter of this edited book presents a detailed review of recent literature on: the history of psychological research into the impact of disasters; stress and traumatic responses; corresponding diagnostic units; and about risk and protective factors. At the end of the chapter, the authors provide general information about the provision of, and policies regarding, psychosocial assistance, and about groups at high risk, including aid workers themselves.
