Publikace je určena pro širokou laickou veřejnost. Autoři chtějí čtenáře přesvědčit, že matematika může přispívat porozumění světu, že je užitečným nástrojem orientace člověka v realitě a že tato disciplína může být i zajímavá. Čtenář má příležitost osvěžit si elementární matematiku a měl by se přesvědčit, že žáci základní školy se neučí tento předmět zbytečně: měli by ji umět na příslušné úrovni používat. Nejen to: rodiče by měli poznat, že studium matematiky přispívá růstu duševního potenciálu dětí.

The publication is addressed for broad general public. The authors’ aim is to persuade the reader that mathematics can contribute to understanding of the world, that it is a useful tool for one’s orientation in reality and that the discipline may be interesting. The reader is offered the opportunity to brush up their knowledge of elementary mathematics. He/she should also realize that doing this subject at school is not just a waste of time, on the contrary that pupils should be able to use it on a certain level. What is more, parents should realize that studying mathematics stimulates the growth of children’s intellectual potential.
