Molecular templating in the sol–gel process represents a unique approach in production of uniform particles efficient as parts of sensors and other electrochemical devices. Major focus of this work was to produce a series of TiO2 thin films under otherwise constant conditions, but varying the molecular structure of the templates, and then relate these structural differences with electrochemical characteristics of the layers. This knowledge might be of practical importance in the design of optimised films for photo-responding sensors.
