This paper shows an implementation of the numerical homogenization procedure based on averaging micro strains and micro stresses computed by the finite element method. The technique requires the finite element analysis of large scale 3D elasticity problems with heterogeneous microstructure. Therefore we discuss iterative solution, special case of pure Neumann boundary problems, use of overlapping domain decomposition and parallelizable Schwarz-type preconditioners and use of an algebraic coarse problem constructed by aggregation.
