Cílem tohoto příspěvku je pokus obhájit tezi, že Masarykův ideál humanitní není jen myšlenkou, spojenou s náboženským úsilím české reformace. V jejím kořeni nacházíme základní demokratické a sociální hodnoty, jež jsou nadčasově platné i pro dnešní dobu. Z tohoto hlediska lze o ideálu humanitním mluvit jako o evropském dědictví.

The goal of this paper is an attempt to clarify the thesis that Masaryk's idea of humanity is not an idea, connected with a religious struggle of Czech reformation only. In its ground we discover the fundamental democratical and social values that are significant generally for prosent day struggle to define common European values. In this manner the idea of humanity represents the European legacy.
