    Comparison of the absolute genome size in the diploid and triploid cytotype of Hieracium alpinum revealed genome downsizing of haploid DNA in triploids. Genome size correlates with longitude and latitude in the Alps with decreasing absolute DNA content from west to east, and from south to north. While previously published data indicated complete male sterility of triploid plants, it was found that plants from the Alps and from Bosnia and Herzegovina commonly produced some pollen.

    Srovnáním absolutní velikosti jaderného genomu u diploidního a triploidního cytotypu Hieracium alpinum byl zjištěn "downsizing" haploidní DNA u triploidů. Velikost genomu alpských rostlin koreluje se zeměpisnou délkou a šířkou, klesá směrem od západu na východ a od jihu na sever. Zatímco doposud publikovaná data ukazovala úplnou samčí sterilitu u triploidů, rostliny z Alp a Bosny a Hercegoviny pyl produkují.
