Phylogeny was the most important factor explaining the pattern of genome size variation in Hieracium sensu stricto (Hieracium subgen. Hieracium), species of western European origin having significantly lower genome size in comparison with those of eastern European origin. Any correlation with ecogeographic variables, including longitude, was outweighed by the divergence of the genus into two major phylogenetic lineages.
Fylogenetický signál je nejvýznamnější faktor vysvětlující variabilitu ve velikosti genomu u Hieracium s. str. (Hieracium subgen. Hieracium). Druhy s těžistěm areálu či původem v západní Evropě mají statisticky průkazně větší velikost genomu než druhy východoevropské. Všechny ostatní korelace s ekogeografickými faktory, např. se zeměpisnou délkou, byly převáženy bazální divergencí rodu do dvou fylogenetických linií, korelovaných s velikostí genomu.
