International Affective Picture System (IAPS) je rozsáhlý soubor fotografií používaný ve výzkumech a diagnostice v psychologii a lékařských oborech k vyvolávání emocionálních reakcí. V různých studiích se objevuje názor, že velmi důležitým, i když dosud málo prozkoumaným, hlediskem, je sémantický obsah těchto fotografií. Příspěvek je věnován pokusu o postižení sémantického obsahu dvou vybraných kontrastních fotografií z IAPS. Od respondentů (studentů psychologie) byly získány verbální popisy těchto fotografií. Takto získané texty byly kódovány třemi posuzovateli na základě systému významu manželů Kreitlerových (1990). Výsledky studie jsou dvojí – metodologické a věcné. Posouzení shody mezi posuzovateli vede k metodologické reflexi práce s textovými daty, významové profily obou obrázků naznačují možnosti využití podobného postupu ve výzkumu a diagnostice.

The International Affective Picture System is an extensive collection of photographs used in research and diagnostics in psychology and medical specializations for eliciting emotional responses. A notion that semantic content of these photographs is of considerable importance (although to this date it has not been adequately examined) has recently emerged in various studies. This study is an attempt to determine semantic content of the two selected photographs. A verbal characterisation of the photographs has been obtained from participants of the research (students of psychology). The texts have been coded by three raters. The rating was based on the meaning system of Kreitler and Kreitler (1990). Results of the study are twofold: methodological and factual. An examination of agreement is leading to a methodological reflection of the work with the data; meaning profiles of both pictures suggest possibilities of employing similar procedure in research and diagnostics.
