Kniha je souborem inspirativních úvah o aplikované mechanice a jejím historickém vývoji. Autor podává také řešení neobvyklých úloh z teorie i praxe a upozorňuje na jejich možná úskalí. Pojednává i o metodických otázkách a o postavení oboru v soustavě učebních plánů vysokých škol. Kniha esejů se tak stává netradičním doplňkem monografií a vysokoškolských učebnic.
The book is composed of a set of thought-provoking essays that are concerned with applied mechanics and its history. The author also presents solution to unusual problems of both theory and practice, and draws attention to their pitfalls. He deals with questions of the methodology and role of the discipline within the framework of curricula of universities as well. In such a way this book of essays represents a non-traditional complement of standard monographs and university textbooks.
