The study analyzing mutations in p53, overexpression of p53 protein, their association with selected tumor clinical parametres and the association of p53 markers with survival amomg 859 women diagnosed with breast cancer. The prevalence of p53 overexpression in the tumor was 36% and of any p53 mutation was 15%. Overexpression of p53 was positively associated with the presence of any p53 mutation. Any p53 mutation and missense mutations were associated with breast cancer-specific and all-cause mortality. These associations however did not remain after adjusting for estrogen/progesterone receptor status.
