The effects of the introduction of dry (starter) feed upon growth rate and early ontogeny were studied in vimba bream (Vimba vimba) during larval rearing under controlled conditions. No demonstrable diference in fry survial was observed between the groups feeding with live and/or dry starter feed. The highest average total length, weight and the most advanced early development were attained by larvae fed on brine shrimp nauplii during the whole larval period of ontogeny. Contrary, the lowest average growth and slowest development was seen in larvae fed with strater feed. With an increasing duration of feeding with brine shrimp nauplii, the length and weight of larvae gradually increased, as did the coefficient of condition.

U podoustve říční (Vimba vimba) byl zkoumán efekt použití suchého, tzv. startovacího krmiva na intenzitu růstu a raný vývoj larev během odchovu v kontrolovaných podmínkách prostředí. Nebyly zjištěny signifikantní diference v přežití mezi skupinami krmenými živou potravou a nebo suchým startovacím krmivem. Vysoké průměrné hodnoty celkové délky, hmotnosti a stupně ontogeneze byly zjištěny u larev krmených během celého období larvální periody naupliemi žábronožky solné. Opačně, nízké hodnoty růstu a pomalý vývoj byl zjištěn u larev krmených po celou dobu pokusu suchým startovacím krmivem. Se zvyšující se dobou krmení žábronožkou solnou se délka a hmotnost larev výrazně zvyšovala, stejně tak koeficient hmotnostní kondice.
