The paper analyzes properties of the spurious spectral components encountered by the digital frequency synthesis due to the finite word-length of the sinusoid phase. The spectrum of one period sinusoid with quantized phase is shown to possess solely frequencies nLń1, n=0ń1,..., where L is the number of quantization levels. DFT analysis of the discretized sinusoid by cyclic permutation exhibits similar properties providing, in addition, exact expressions for frequencies and amplitudes of spectral components.
