Articular cartilage is described as a macroscopicallyheterogeneous medium consisting of zones layers with differentorientation of collagen fibers and with different mechanicalproperties. Breaking of the collagen fibers in the superficialtangential zone this zone is understood to be the cause ofinception of fissures at the surface.
