Bacterial strains from soil contaminated with PCBs were isolated from rhizosphere, rhizoplane and bulk space, taxonomically characterised, and their ability to transform PCBs was evaluated and strains screened for their ability to grow in the presence of plant flavonoids or phenolics as a sole carbon source. Production of root exudates and their composition as studied.
