    The .DELTA.sub.++-resonance production in central 158 A GeV.sub.208 Pb + .sub.208 Pb collisions at the CERN SPS has been studied. The .DELTA.sub.++ production was estimated fromthe invariant mass spectrum of p.pí.sub.+-pairs by subtracting a mixed event background. The measured .DELTA.sub.++ abundance is compared with the results from other experimentsat lower energies, and with a model calculation assuming thermal and chemical equilibrium.
