We studied the relation between MR structural changes in the rat brain and the functional impairment observed 14 months after irradiation of the hippocampus by a Leksell Gamma knife (LGK). Our resultss show that if edema is observed, a functional impairment occurs. Our results obtained in an animal model are similar to the description of lesion evolution observed in the human brain after LGK treatment /2/.
