Interactions of sanguinarine with albumin and DNA have been investigated. The results obtained suggest that at physiological pH the pseudobase (alkanolamine) form of sanguinarine is involved in the interactions with cellular biomacromolecules and by this mode may elicit pharmacological/cytotoxic responses.
