Existence of growing amount of electronic texts in Indian languages makes it possible to introduce methods and approaches of corpus linguistics into the study of eg. modern Hindi. Electronical processing of vast amounts of linguistic data opens up new possibilities in the sphere of lexicology, lexicography, stylistic analysis and classroom teaching. The present contribution demostrates on selected examples some advantages of this new tool and points to some methodological problems involved in processing the most easily accessible type of texts - the journals and newspapers which constitute a peculiar sub-language in the modern standard Hindi (and, most probably, of any language).
