The study is showing early age-related impairment of conditined blocking of taste aversion, the hippocampal-dependent task. Neurotransplantation in non-lesioned aged brains was followed by rapid recovery of this cognitive function. Therefore, mechanism of action may involve the enhanced release of neurotransmitters and-or trophic factors either by transplant or by host tissue.
