Vasopressin release from the cultured suprechiasmatic neurons showscircadian rhythm peaking in the middle of subjective day. Vasoactiveintestinal peptide (VIP) induces phaseshifts of the rhythm, itsapplication 6-12 hours before the peak of vasopressin rhythm inducesadvences, application 4-8 hours after the peak induces delays. Incontrast, glutamate has no effect on the phase of vasopressin rhythm.
