    The PALS high-power iodine laser system with a maximum attainable laser power density, was used to generate highly charged Ta ions. Ion collectors and a a cylindrical electrostatic ion energy analyzer were used to analyze properties of ioms emitted from the laser-produced plasma and recorded in the far expansion zone.
