In spite of continuing stagnation in the telecommunication industry in general and in building new optical networks in particular, research in this area continues unabated. Archievements of COST 266 Action in research of advanced infrustructure for photonic networks is presented and further prospects in reasearch in this area is discussed in the paper. Progress in introducing advanced photonic technologies in communication networks is reviewed and the development trends are discussed.

Navzdory celkové stagnaci telekomunikačního sektoru a zejména útlumu v budování nových optických sítí, výzkum v této oblasti pokračuje v nezmenšené míře. V příspěvku jsou presentovány výsledky výzkumu vyspělé infrastruktury pro optické sítě dosažené v rámci evropského projektu COST 266. Dále je uveden přehled využívání pokročilých fotonických technologií v optických sítích a jsou diskutovány vývojové trendy v této oblasti.
