The dossier of Klee's works inspired by classical antiquity is expanded by the addition of the oil painting Senecio (Basel). It could be inspired by the "bocca della verita" in the portico of St. Mary in Cosmedin, Rome.

Malíř Paul Klee patřil k avantgardním umělcům, čerpajícím inspirace z antické kultury. Mezi těmito zdroji tvorby se zřejmě nalézal i mramorový disk, dnes umístěný v portiku kostela S. Maria in Cosmedin v Římě a známý jako „bocca della varita“, který inspiroval Kleeův obraz Senecio z roku 1922.
