Úvodní teoretická část publikace poukazuje na poměrně diverzifikovaný přístup k fenoménu hranice a pohraničí, kterým se zabývají především geografické vědy. Další část se zaměřuje na hodnocení regionálního rozvoje českého pohraničí, a to na pozadí státní regionální politiky Česka. Třetí hlavní část na pozadí evropské politiky hospodářské a sociální soudržnosti charakterizuje hraniční problematiku na úrovni Evropské unie, středoevropského prostoru a národní (vč. regionální až lokální).

The theoretical part shows a relatively diversified approach to the border (border region) phenomenon, which is studied by geography in particular. Another section focuses on the evaluation of the regional development of Czech border regions at the background of the regional policy. The third section characterized on the background the policy of economic and social cohesion of the EU the border issue on the different levels: the EU, the Central Europe, and on the national, regional and local.
