Přijetím Statutu Mezinárodního trestního soudu a vzniku Mezinárodního soudu jako prvního stálého mezinárodního trestního tribunálu vyvrcholily dlouhodobé snahy a pokusy o vytvoření mezinárodního trestního soudnictví k postihování nejzávažnějších zločinů.

The adoption of the Statutes and the origin of the International Criminal Court as the first permanent international criminal tribunal represent the culmination of long-term endeavour and attempts to create international criminal judiciary to prosecute the most serious crimes against universal humanitarian values protected by international law.
