Acrylic and styrene/acrylic latex binders comprising functional monomers as acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, methacrylamide and hydroxyethyl methacrylate in differenct concentration levels were synthesized. It was shown that the extent of particle swelling and hydroplasticization of alkali-swellable particles was affected by the "hard" comonomer polarity. The effect of dissociated carboxylic groups on increase in latex viscosity and on lowering minimum film forming temperature was much more pronounced in the case of methyl methacrylate comonomer.

Byla připravena akrylátová a styren/akrylátová pojiva obsahující různé množství reaktivních monomerních jednotek (akrylová či methakrylová kyselina, methakrylamid, hydroxyethyl methakrylát). Bylo ukázáno, že nabotnání a hydroplastifikace částic jsou ovlivněny polaritou "tvrdého" monomeru. Účinek disociavaných karboxylových skupin a snížení minimální filmotvorné teploty byly mnohem vyšší v případě methyl-methakrylátu.
