Silica fibers doped with erbium, alumium oxide and phosphorus oxide were prepared by solution-doping and MCVD techniques. The fibers doped with alumina nanoparticles exhibited three times lower base-line attenuation than the fiber prepared from a solution of aluminum chloride.
