Taxonomic redescription of a microsporidian originally described as Thelohania disparis and its correct assignment to the genus Vairimorpha. The parasite is a pathogen of the gypsy moth Lymantria dispar, important forest pest. The redescription, which is the prerequisite for the use of the organism as biological control agent, is based on structural, ultrastructural and molecular biology characters of a number of isolates of the parasite collected in numerous sites of occurrence of the host organism in the Central and Eastern Europe.

Taxonomická redefinice a nový popis mikrosporidie původně popsané jako Thelohania disparis, která však správně patří do rodu Vairimorpha. Parazit je významným patogenem bekyně velkohlavé Lymantria dispar, významného lesního škůdce. Redeskripce, která je základním předpokladem pro použití organizmu jako biokontrolního agens, je založena na strukturálních, ultrastrukturálních a molekulárně biologických vlastnostech organizmu jak byly stanoveny na základě výzkum řady izolátů sebraných v areálu výskytu hostitelského organizmu ve střední a východní Evropě.
