Text provides an overview of some neological/neographical issues. Various definitions of the term neologism are based on diverse criteria, e. g. the word-formation (diachronic), the sense of novelty felt by the speakers (psychological), the absence of the word in existing dictionaries (lexicographic), and the criterion based on systematic signs of formal or semantic instability. Some of the propositions are refined or problematized, these theoretical reflections are illustrated with examples of new words in contemporary Czech (fablet, fejsíček, internet, krutopřísný, otagovat, páčko segway, vygooglit). Finally, the results of a survey (2015) investigating the language picture of neologisms are presented.
