The text summarizes scholarly opinions on the iconography of the stucco decoration of the Renaissance summer palace Star in Prague, erected between 1555-1563. The eleven ceilings on the ground floor are decorated with a central figural motif, most often an ancient deity (the so-called dominant). The meanings of secondary motifs, mostly motivated by reliefs on ancient sarcophagi, are often associated with the dominant figures. The stuccoes also include various ornamental additions and variations. First, the text guides the reader through the Star while attempting to answer whether the decoration has a unified interpretation. Then, as a new topic, it understands the guiding principle for a decoration emphasizing structure and motifs familiar from contemporary festivals.
