Práce, zaměřená na oblast Balkánu, se zabývá otázkami budování státu a míru v současnosti a v minulosti. První část je věnována měnící se terminologii. Hlavními pojmy jsou budování státu, budování míru a přechodná mezinárodní správa. Mnoho aspektů budování míru a přechodné správy má významnou prehistorii na počátku 20. století. Tenkrát chyběla mezinárodní organizace s globálními ambicemi, ale velmoci občas spolupracovaly při procesu krizového managementu.

The paper, focusing on the Balkan region, deals with the topic of state-building and peace-building today and in the past. The first part of the paper focuses on the changing terminology,with principal notions being state-building, peace-building and transitional international administration. Many aspects of peace-building and transitional administration have important prehistory in the early 20 century. This time absent the international organization with global ambitions, but the great powers sometimes cooperated in the proces of crisis management.
