The study analyses two short texts recorded in Confundarius maior, a miscellany written by Mattheus Beran in 1431 (today known as cod. I. F. 35 of the National Library in Prague). One of the two treatises bears a title Prenosticaciones temporum per tonitrua signorum (fol. 23v), the other Prenosticacio temporum futurorum (fol. 28v). Both texts enable foretelling the future with regard to meteorological circumstances and other related phenomena (e. g. harvest and agricultural conditions, human affairs), depending on the month of the first thunder and on the actual weekday of January calends. The study examines the origin and development of these texts in the context of ancient and medieval sources and their rich reception in medieval Bohemia.
