Studie připomíná osmisté výročí přijetí Magny Carty Libertatum a její význam pro vývoj konstitucionalismu v současném světě. Obsahuje analýzu podmínek, v jejichž kontextu Magna Carta vznikala. Po rozboru struktury Magny Carty a obecném hodnocení jejího významu pro vývoj anglického a potažmo britského konstitucionalismu zdůrazňuje obecný přínos Magny Carty pro vývoj ústavnosti soudobých států světa v éře globalizace, kdy prolínání a vzájemné ovlivňování ústavních institucí a jejich historických vzorů se stává samozřejmou realitou. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována těm oblastem ústavnosti, pro něž Magna Carta znamenala především prvotní konkrétní přínos. Analýza se zde soustřeďuje na ustanovení Magny Carty, které jsou předstupněm, respektive otevírají cestu ke vzniku parlamentu, konceptu svobody a lidských práv, principu Rule of Law, Due process of Law – v kontinentálně evropském pojetí právního státu. Studie analyzuje rovněž náznak soudní kontroly ústavnosti, který Magna Carta obsahuje.
