Induction of long-term tolerance to beta-cell autoantigens has been investigated both in animal models and in human tpe 1 diabetes in order to prevent the disease. As it was found in this study, intranasal gliadin also rescued a fraction of prediabetic NOd mice. In conclusion, in. vaccination with gliadin, an environmental antigen with possible etiological influnce in T1D, may represent a novel, safer strategy for prevention or ven early cure of T1D.
