Neeukleidovské geometrie vznikly v první polovině 19. století během pokusů porozumět axiomatické výstavbě eukleidovské geometrie — zejména při dokazování nezávislosti pátého Eukleidova postulátu o rovnoběžkách [6], [9]. Mezi jejich zakladatele patří Carl Friedrich Gauss, Nikolaj I. Lobačevskij, János Bolyai, Bernhard Riemann, Sophus Lie, Felix Klein a mnozí další.
This is a survey paper on properties of the maximally symmetric manifolds that are used to model a high homogeneity and isotropy of our Universe on large scales. The authors present 10 fundamental theorems on mutual isometric imbeddings and isometric immersions between the sphere $S^n$, the Euclidean space $E^n$, and the pseudosphere $H^n$. For instance, the pseudosphere $H^n$ can be isometrically imbedded into $E^{6n-6}$ for $n>1$ and it is not known whether the dimension $6n-6$ can be reduced.
