The article concerns with the theme of cognitive complexity from the point of view of the personal construct psychology (PCP). Cognitive complexity is understood as both differentiation and integration of a hierarchical structure consisting of elementary cognitive schemes called personal constructs. The aims of the study are to explore verbal and nonverbal complexity as well, and to focus on psychometric aspects of particular indexes for measuring cognitive complex-ity. The Revised semantic selection test was used for this purpose. The test was administered in two forms, verbal and nonverbal. After that the verbal and non-verbal re-tests followed. Four indexes related to cognitive complexity were ex-plored: differentiation, integration, fragmentation and intensity. Results revealed strong positive correlations between intensity and integration, and their negative correlations with fragmentation. These relationships were substantial mainly in the verbal tests. Indexes of intensity correlated with each other across the verbal and nonverbal variants and across the test and re-test. It is suggested that there is a psychological tendency to construe people more or less “intensively” that ex-plains the correlations between different variants of the test. This property can be interpreted in terms of integration (as opposed to fragmentation) of the system of personal constructs.
