A fast and simple laboratory procedure for preparation of TiO2 anatase nanocrystals with defined crystallite-sizes (in the range from 4.5 to 15 nm) and distributions was developed. Titania anatase crystallites were synthesized by low-temperature hydrolysis of titanium (IV) alkoxides in hydrogen peroxide solution followed by calcination of the amorphous titania peroxo-product at temperature 300°C and higher. Textural and surface properties, particle morphology and purity of the synthesized TiO2 powders were characterized by nitrogen physisorption at -196°C, helium pycnometry, high-pressure mercury porosimetry, XPS, FESEM and organic elemental analysis. The determination of TiO2 phase composition and the evaluation of TiO2 crystallite-sizes and crystallite-size distributions were based on XRD using the advanced whole powder pattern modelling method.
