Abelova cena za matematiku v roce 2008 byla udělena J.G. Thompsonovi a J. Titsovi za hluboké výsledky v algebře a hlavně za zformování moderní teorie grup.

The Abel Prize 2008 for mathematics has been awarded to J.G. Thompson and J. Tits for their profound achievements in algebra and in particular for shaping modern group theory.
