The aim of the present work is to investigate whether the same principles of Co2+(Ni2+) deposition can be applied to prepare the un-supported form of Co/MoS2, Ni/MoS2, Ni/WS2 and Ni/MoWS2 catalysts. The aqueous slurry of CoCO3.Co(OH)2 or 2NiCO3·3Ni(OH)2·4H2O was thus milled with MoS2, WS2 or MoS2+WS2 in stainless steel bowl in planetary mill. A sample was taken from the slurry at given time of reaction in planetary mill. It was dried at 110 °C and then it underwent the reduction re-sulphidation in H2S/H2 (1/10) mixture at 400 °C. It was tested for its specific surface area, S.A., by N2 physisorption at -196 °C and activity in thiophene, TH, HDS at 340 °C and 1 MPa. Once the activity in thiophene HDS did not change with the reaction time, the final sample was prepared. It was dried, re-sulphided and characterized as above. Moreover, the activity in HDS of 4,6-dimethyl-dibenzothiophene, 4,6DMDBT, at 360 °C and 5 MPa and in H2S thermo-catalytic decomposition at 600-1000 °C was determined. Selected catalysts were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction Analysis (XRD) or O2 chemisorption.
