    Chemical composition of natural straw is unfavorable for production of nonindustrial straw pellets. Aims were to study changing the fuel properties of straw at leaching with water. Aims were achieved by straw soaking with subsequent plug flow flushing, studying the ash, chlorine, nitrogen, sulfur content of original and leached straw, chemical composition of ash, determining the initial deformation temperature (IDT) of ash, and comparing the properties of original and leached straw with the specification of straw pellets. Straw leaching provided decreasing chlorine, nitrogen, and sulfur contents below limitations. The IDT of the original straw ash was 847 °C, and 1250 °C after water leaching.
