Komenský jmenuje Cicerona na řadě míst, kde varuje před zhoubným vlivem antické literatury na morálku křesťana, zejména školních žáků. Samotnému Ciceronovi však až na řídké výjimky žádné morální vady nevytýká, má pro něj i slova chvály pro jeho moudré postoje a myšlenky, s nimiž namnoze sám souzněl, uznává jeho řečnické schopnosti a vytříbenost jeho jazyka. Poměrně často jej cituje, a to jak z literárních důvodů (jako ozdobu vlastního textu), tak na podporu svých názorů a argumentů v oblasti výchovy a vzdělání, filosofie i náboženství. Citáty z Ciceronových spisů najdeme u Komenského po celou dobu jeho působení, od studentských disertací až po pozdní filosofická a všenápravná díla. Cicerona lze pokládat za autora, na němž Komenský názorně představuje svůj opatrný, nejednoznačný vztah k antickému dědictví.

Comenius mentions Cicero in a number of places where he warns against the corrupting influence of ancient literature on the morals of Christians, especially schoolchildren. However, with rare exceptions, he does not reproach Cicero himself with any moral defects: he has words of praise for him for his wise attitudes and ideas, with which he himself often agreed, and he acknowledges his oratorical ability and the refinement of his language. He quotes him quite often, both for literary reasons (as an embellishment to his own text) and to support his views and arguments in the fields of education and learning, philosophy and religion. Quotations from Cicero’s writings can be found in Comenius throughout his career, from his student dissertations to his later philosophical works and plans for universal improvement of human affairs. Cicero can be considered the author on whom Comenius illustrates his cautious, ambiguous relationship to the ancient heritage.
