On Saturday, November 25, NIVB PhD students participated in a Scientific Writing Workshop led by Carlos V. Melo. Carlos V. Melo has over 10 years experience in a wide range of life sciences fields and methods, acquired at International Academic and Research Institutions, including Stanford University. The workshop was filled with practical lessons, group activities, and individual tasks. Students were introduced to the principles of effective scientific communication, and looked at how to write up methods, results, and how to create a structured abstract and title. They then teamed up to explore a same topic and experienced collaboration among scientists from different research groups with diverse focuses but a shared goal. At the end, students prepared their own research-based text and received constructive feedback.
