The encyclopedic entry offers an overview of research including a discussion of the authenticity of Ignatius’ letters and explains their main theological motifs. Ignatius’ emphasis on the hierarchical organization of the congregation must be interpreted in the broader context of other motifs, especially prayer and the Eucharist.
