    Both strength and fatigue resistance of metal components may be improved by peening of thecomponent surface. In the present contribution, we take into account the modern Laser Shock Peening (LSP) technique in which the material surface is hardened by a laser-induced shock wave. In particular, a finite-volume-method-based modeling framework for LSP capable of providing high-fidelity simulations of the process is introduced, described, validated and used for an industrial application of increasing a cutting-edge lifetime.
