The paper deals with the research of overlooked stencil paintings on the transfer of wall paintings from Prague Castle and puts them in the context of the Karlštejn workshops. These workshops used stencil decors on wall and panel paintings and varied their wide range of motifs into different forms. Their subsequent use can be found on wall and panel paintings in the second half of the 14th century across central Europe. The rediscovery of stencil paintings from Prague Castle, however, raises the question of copying and variation of stencils within the workshop. The paper thus asks the question of the technological process of production and application of the motifs of the stencils, of which only imprints in the form of the wall paintings have survived, as well as the question of their transmission and preservation in the workshops.
