As the longest century of the Ottoman Empire gave way to the age of nation-states, the question “how can the state be saved” became the main preoccupation of all Ottoman intellectuals bound for Europe, physically and intellectually. This book traces the story/ies of the various factions of the Young Turk organisation and provides a glimpse into the ideas for change and modernisation of those in opposition to Sultan Abdulhamid II, towards the end of the 19th century.
