This work presents a novel method for achieving the optical resolution of 9,10-diketo-[7]helicene1, a highly versatile building block with broad applications in helicene based molecule synthesis. Our study has revealed that diketone 1 exhibits exceptional reactivity with both (S)- and (R)-1,1′-binaphthyl-2,2′-diamine, resulting in superior diastereomeric excess.
