Lýsiás byl ve své generaci nejvýznamnějším autorem soudních řečí v klasických Athénách. Jeho nejdelší řeči, známé jako “Obžaloba Eratosthena” a “Obžaloba Agoráta”, patří mezi nejdůležitější prameny pro poslední léta 5. století př. n. l., kdy Athéňané obnovovali svou demokracii a vyrovnávali se s traumaty, která jim přinesl konec peloponnéské války.

Lysias was the most important author of courtroom speeches in his generation in classical Athens. His longest speeches, known as “Against Eratosthenes” and “Against Agoratus”, are among the most important sources for the final years of the 5th century BCE, when the Athenians were restoring their democracy and coping with the traumas brought about by the end of the Peloponnesian War.
