Volatile organic compounds (VOC) can be removed from air by catalytic total oxidation to carbon dioxide and water as end products. Transition metal oxides are often used as catalysts in this process. The combination of multiple transition metal cations in these catalysts may increase their activity in VOC oxidation due to a possible synergistic effect. Recently we observed an enhanced catalytic performance of Co-Mn mixed oxides in the deep ethanol oxidation compared to Co and Mn oxides alone, whereas activity of the Ni-Co oxides decreased with increasing Ni content in the catalysts. To investigate the activity of other types of oxides, we prepared Ni-Mn and Ni-Co-Mn catalysts by heating coprecipitated precursors and examined the effect of metal cations molar ratio in the catalysts on their physical chemical properties and catalytic performance in the VOC total oxidation.
